Bruce Springsteen. Electric Nebraska 1982 (Expanded Edition). Out October 24, 2025 feat "Born in the U.S.A.".

Buckingham Nicks. Buckingham Nicks. This 1973 release, long out-of-print, a musicians' favorite and cult classic. Soon after its release, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac (you can hear their future here) and the rest, as they say, is history.

Chambawamba. "Bella Ciao". Anti-fascist song in the news.

David Bowie. "Waterloo Sunset" A cover of The Kinks' classic 1967 single, released as bonus track on Reality (2003). "Terry meets Julie at Waterloo Station every Friday night...".

    RIP Terrence Stamp (July 22, 1938 - August 17, 2025).
    Pictured here with Julie Christie circa 1967.

Gary Numan. BBC Sessions. Recorded in 1979 for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show, it features Numan's classic "Cars".

MUSICAL NOTES

           Really enjoyed Ty Segall's recent "Tiny Desk Concert"!

================================================

Supergrass doing "Strange Ones" live on Jimmy Kimmel.
They're touring to celebrate the 30th anniversary of I Should Coco.

=========================================================

"H.O.O.D." by Kneecap, live in London, November 21, 2024. This is the concert that rapper Mo Chara (that's his stage name. Real name: Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) is facing "terrorism" charges for. In the video, he displays a banned Hezbollah flag and says into the mic, "Up Hamas! Up Hezbollah!". It is illegal in the UK to express support for a banned terror group. Hamas (Palestine) and Hezbollah (Lebanon) are both banned terror groups on the UK's proscribed list. Mo Chara is back in court in London on September 26, 2025. Kneecap has subsequently clarified that they do not support Hamas, Hezbollah, or attacks on civilians and have claimed the prosecution is simply another attempt of British authorities to silence an Irish artist, in this case for their support of Palestinian rights. It was a mistake for Mo Chara to say he supported Hamas and Hezbollah at the November 2024 concert. Where they go from here is to be determined.

                             Mo Chara supporters outside of court, August 2025

Public Enemy gave a powerful performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel had been taken off the air by ABC/Disney after the FCC's Brendan Carr called for his head on a far-right podcast (by Benny Johnson, who received Russian government funding from Tenet Media to spread disinformation and foment political division in America). Public outcry led to Kimmel being brought back quickly to the airwaves.

Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) & Alynda Segarra (Hurray For The Riff Raff) duetting on Conor's classic "Lua". Hurray For The Riff Raff was the opening act on part of Bright Eyes' 2025 tour when this duet was captured by a fan. Alynda also duetted with Conor on two songs, "Kids Table" & "Dyslexic Palindrome" from the new Bright Eyes EP Kids Table. Here's Conor & Alynda doing a cover of Blondie's classic pop hit "Dreaming", live in St. Louis on March 22, 2025):

RIP Blondie drummer Clem Burke (
November 24, 1954 – April 6, 2025), a class act.

Geese doing "Taxes" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live".

============================================================

Now we remember how important shows like Kimmel and Colbert are for indie bands in the US. Here's a classic from the criminally underrated Living Colour feat the extraordinary Vernon Reid on guitar. Their 1988 hit "The Cult of Personality" namecheck all the usual suspects like Stalin & Mussolini... but in today's climate, especially on Kimmel, after what happened to Kimmel... you can't help reflect on today's would-be dictators and their cults of personality - Putin, Erdogan, Xi, Modi... and, of course, Our Toddler-In-Chief, Donald Jephoshaphat Trump...
