Cool Music Playlist: July 2021: We Contain Multitudes...

ALBUMS

Cedric Burnside. I Be Trying. He played drums with his late grandfather R.L. Burnside's touring band and has emerged as a major blues artist in his own right.

Tinariwen. Inside/Outside (Joshua Tree Acoustic Sessions) (EP)

Max Bloom. Pedestrian. Former Yuck guitarist/singer's new solo album

Conor Oberst. Ruminations (Expanded Edition). New version contains several previously unreleased songs.

Modest Mouse. The Golden Casket

Hiss Golden Messenger Quietly Blowing It

Lucy Dacus. Home Video

Birds of Maya. Valdez

Bobby Gillespie & Jehnny Beth Utopian Ashes

David BowiePin Ups (Deluxe) & The Metrobolist (The Man Who Sold The World remastered + Bonus Material collected as The Width Of A Circle) & Divine Symmetry: Rare & Unreleased Tracks 1970-1971)(bootleg)

The White Stripes. White Blood Cells XX. The 20th anniversary edition of White Blood Cells contains a rarities disc and a live disc of a 2001 concert.

Manassas Manassas

Blind Blake Collected Works (1926 - 1932)

Eric Clapton Happy, Happy Birthday Eric (bootleg) feat Bob Dylan, Jesse Ed Davis, Billy Preston, Ron Woods, The Band. I hate that Clapton's a racist, especially after all the Black musicians he learned from over the years. And now he joins Van Morrison and Morrissey with COVID denial. I'm tempted to simply not discuss these artists here, but this bootleg is amazing.

The Who Live At The Monterey International Pop Festival (1968)

SINGLES

Herbie Hancock. "Tamatant Tilay/Exodus" (feat. Tinariwen, K'naan, & Los Lobos)

Joe Tex. "I Gotcha" (1972)

Paul Weller. "Circles" (The Who cover)

David Bowie. "Pictures Of Lilly" (The Who cover)

The Beatles. "Sour Milk Sea"

Jackie Lomax. "Sour Milk Sea", "The Eagles Laughs At You", & "New Day"

St. Vincent. "Sad But True" (Metallica cover)

Devendra Banhart. "Franklin's Tower" (Grateful Dead cover)

Wye Oak. "Its Way With Me"

J Mascis & Sharon Van Etten. "Prisoners" (John Denver cover)

John Denver. "Prisoners"

Car Seat Headrest. "Golden Years" (David Bowie cover) & "Substitute" (The Who cover)

The Edwin Hawkins Singers. "Oh Happy Day"

The Rolling Stones "Child Of The Moon"

Bob Dylan "I Can't Leave Her Behind" (from the film Don't Look Back)

Dionne Warwick "I'll Never Fall In Love Again"

Nancy Sinatra "These Boots Were Made For Walking", "Bang Bang", "Something Stupid" (feat Frank Sinatra)

Most of my playlists consist almost entirely of new and recent material.

This one is mostly older songs, including a lot of covers.
