In Praise of Pavement

Been listening to a lot of Pavement lately.

I loved their reunion shows (and one back in the day at the first Tibet Freedom concert), and saw some excellent Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks shows in California and Oregon the past 5 or 6 years, including this one in Portland...

... and a great one recently in San Francisco...

It's cool that Stephen is confident enough (and/or smart enough) to play Pavement songs with The Jicks (and play them well, they do...). Needless to say, the crowd loves it when he does some Pavement classics. Everyone seemed to get a kick at the SF show singing along with Stereo:

What about the voice of Geddy Lee?
How did it get so high?
I wonder if he speaks
like an ordinary guy?

(I know him and he does!)

And you're my fact-checkin' 'cuzz

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What I'm tripping on is that, even though their music is 20 years old, when played along side today's indie hits, sounds as fresh (or Fresher!).... If this music was released today, it would still sound like great innovative cutting edge music... except that this time, they might have more fans than they did in the 90s, because they were so freakin' ahead of their time, we're
only now catching up!
