Brooklyn-based wry singer-songwriter Reid Paley and Black Francis, singer-songwriter for The Pixies, have been buddies for a long time, and now they have an album together, called, appropriately enough, Paley & Francis.
We loved Frank Black's version of Reid's I'm Not Dead (I'm in Pittsburgh). (Reid's former home).
One unique voice gave voice to another.
Actually, Frank Black (Black Francis) recorded several Reid songs over the years, and now there's this new album and mini-tour.
The album was recorded in Nashville, with legend Spooner Oldham on piano (some nice flourishes from him pop up here and there).
Francis and Reid trade off on lead vocals on the 10 songs. On first listen, the album sounds great and demands further listening, which i am happy to oblige...
