White Hot Stone Bleeding Through The Top of My Head by billy hayes
Billy Hayes, best known as former drummer for Jay Reatard and Wavves
Billy Hayes (left) and Jay Reatard, Amoeba Records, 8/22/09, Haight St., San Francisco... RIP Jay.. photo by Michael Donnelly
is also a singer, composer, songwriter, producer, guitarist, keyboardist... wait! is there anything he doesn't do???
Billy gave up the drummer's seat for Nathan Williams' Wavves (Billy was the second of three drummers for Wavves so far) on the eve of their performance at Madison Square Garden, opening up for The Dirty Projectors and Phoenix (who were joined on stage by Daft Punk) as part of CMJ 2010.
He stated at the time that he wanted to devote more time to his own songs - he wrote three of Wavves' best songs - Baby Say Goodbye, Convertible Balloon, and Stained Glass (Won't You Let Me Into Your Heart) - and that he preferred to spend time at home as opposed to the rigors of the road.
Fortunately Billy has been active, composing soundscapes and songs and posting them for free download or stream on Soundcloud:

There are some cool songs there, and the latest posting (see top of this posting) is really worth checking out.
"So, let us not be blind to our differences - but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal." JFK, June 10, 1963.

From Michael Corleone to Tony Montana to Carlito to... Phil Spector? Producer of The Ronettes, The Righteous Brothers, Let It Be, Instant Karma, My Sweet Lord, The Ramones.... pure AM radio gold.... to know know know him, was to love love love him.... but also the guy who pulled a gun on Lennon, Leonard Cohen, AND The Ramones.... and who sits in jail for the murder of Lana Clarkson....
hey, i guess that is pretty "gangster"..... er, no, it's not, it's fucked up is what it is...
We just have to face the fact that the man behind some of the greatest music of our time is also a psycho and a murderer.
And now soon to be immortalized on the small screen by Al Pacino in HBO's upcoming biopic.

Arctic Monkeys Announce Third US Tour This Year!
Wow! Guess these guys are serious about conquering America!
They just announced their third swing thru the US this year in support of their new 4th album Suck It And See....
So is the new album any good? I've been listening to all 4 albums, b-sides, live concerts... they are one of my favorite artists (guess Jack White and Pete Doherty are two of the others...)... and I do like albums 3 and 4 (and weirdly, find that they save the best for the b-sides for some reason.... like I Haven't Got My Strange.... why isn't that on the 3rd album? Why do they not feature some of their best songs on the album and sneak them out as b-sides? No understand-o....)... but album 3 and 4 do not cannot and will not ever measure up to albums 1 and 2.... those are classics written when they were kids and are flawless... Albums 3 and 4 are great, but not perfect.... Oh well, isn't two perfect albums enough? Most people don't have any....
Pretty cool, by the way, that the lads from Sheffield will be touring with Chicago's finest.... The Smith Westerns!

Doherty played for over an hour, kicking off the set with 'Bound Together' - which you can watch fan footage of by scrolling down and clicking below.
'Don't Look Back Into The Sun', 'Time For Heroes' and 'Can't Stand Me Now'were also given an airing.
Doherty served just over six weeks of a six-month sentence for cocaine possession.
However, his legal troubles appear to be far from over - he could still face up to five years in prison for charges of burglary, after he allegedly broke into a record shop in Germany and stole a guitar.

Pete Doherty played a 'freedom gig' in London yesterday afternoon (July 9).
The Babyshambles man took to the stage at the Blues Kitchen in Camden to celebrate being released early from prison on Tuesday (5).
Although the gig was originally scheduled for the evening, the singer was forced to move it to the afternoon under the conditions of his release, which apparently stipulate that he is not allowed to leave his home between 7pm and 7am.

Jeff The Brotherhood "Mellow Out"
Stream the audio of "Mellow Out" here
Live at SXSW 2010 Austin, TX., recorded for KEXP Radio, Seattle:
Hey! These guys (two brothers from Tennessee) totally rock!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JEFF_the_Brotherhood
Exhibit A: The song "Mellow Out", my new go-to jam....
MELLOW OUT!
I need to find a place to live
I can't take it anymore
But I'm away so much
So what's the point of that?
I need to find a place to go
When I wanna be alone
Where I can do my thing
And I can Mellow Out
(on the record)
I need my records on a shelf
Cuz I care about my health
And I don't want to have to
Miss them anymore
Baby, please, can't you see?
I think you are so sexy
Won't you Mellow Out with me?
You're so cool
I am too
I know what you wanna do
Wanna do something with you
Baby, please, can't you see?
You're so cool

On September 12th, 2011 in UK/Europe, September 13th in US and September 7th in Japan, San Francisco’s Girls will release their second album and third record Father, Son, Holy Ghost on Fantasytrashcan/Turnstile. The album comes two years after their debut (Album), and one year after the follow-up EP (Broken Dreams Club). It is their most accomplished to date.
On the third anniversary of the birth of Girls as a band Christopher Owens and Chet White found themselves entering the studio to begin recording their second album. More a collection of gear than a studio, recording took place in the bowels of a San Francisco office building. The two teamed up with new drummer Darren Weiss and guitarist John Anderson assembling performances and ultimately creating new music and musical relationships to carry the band through its newest incarnation. Quickly the record took shape and with the luxury of time and an outstanding and vast collection of amplifiers as well as tube and transistor based recording equipment the sound was formed. Less explorative than previous records the sound is built on the ideas and ears of a much more confident band. And the outcome is their most important release to date.
Girls have taken what they've always done best and have displayed it with amazing clarity and the strongest of intent. Classic songwriting coupled with exciting production is their way. “I’m still all the same,” Owens says. “I still know I have to do it. I still love the songs and writing songs.”
Father. Son, Holy Ghost is at times ebullient and at times absolutely devastating. A truly beautiful record and the perfect amalgamation of a band’s past and present while most importantly leaving us all excited and hungry for their future

Dusty Springfield: You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me
Music and Original Italian lyrics by Pino Donaggio and Vito Pallavicini
English lyrics by Vicki Wickham and Simon Napier-Bell
English lyrics by Vicki Wickham and Simon Napier-Bell
When I said I needed you
You said you would always stay
It wasn't me who changed but you
And now you've gone away
Don't you see
That now you've gone
And I'm left here on my own
That I have to follow you
And beg you to come home?
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me
I can't help but love you
But believe me
I'll never tie you down
Left alone with just a memory
Life seems dead and so unreal
All that's left is loneliness
There's nothing left to feel
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me, believe me
Jack White to play with The Raconteurs - first show in 2 years!
http://pitchfork.com/news/43092-the-raconteurs-plot-first-gig-in-two-years/
The Raconteurs, featuring Jack White and Brendan Benson as co-frontmen, both of them singing and guitaring, will play at the Michigan festival in September, their first show in 2 years.
Since The White Stripes were on hiatus (and have since officially announced they were through), Jack White fans were overjoyed to see him play with The Raconteurs, where he played with a full band (instead of the two-piece that was The White Stripes).
But then came The Dead Weather, with Alison as the front"man", and Jack stuck behind the drum kits except for a song or two on guitar. Fun as it was to see him drum (and he sang some from behind the kit too), many of us felt it was a waste of one of the world's greatest guitarists.
So now we're happy we will see him back out front, back on guitar, where he fucking belongs!
This festival performance is just the first of many, right guys?
The Raconteurs released two fine albums and performed all over the place. I caught them at the Treasure Island Festival a couple of years back on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. Great show. let's hope they release a third album and tour the hell out of it.
The Raconteurs also features Jack Lawrence (Greenhornes, Dead Weather) on bass, Patrick Keller (Greenhornes) on drums, and Dean Fertita (Queens of The Stone Age, Dead Weather) on keyboards.
Long may they rock....

Seasick Steve, Jack White, John Paul Jones, Alison Mosshart live in London
The all-star band performed at the iTunes Festival 2011 in London yesterday. Steve was headlining the Festival, and pleased the crowd by introducing his special guests who sat in on a cover of an old Mississippi Fred McDowell song "Write Me a Few Lines"
Mississippi Fred McDowell's Wikipedia page
Alison and Jack's band The Dead Weather covered "New Pony" on their first album, which is a Bob Dylan reimagining of a Mississippi Fred song. I caught Steve busking on Haight St. in San Francisco and he did another Mississippi Fred song, "You Got To Move" (covered famously by The Stones), as well as a few of his own chestnuts.

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
An ending fitting for the start
You twist and tore our love apart
Your light fingers threw the dart
Shattered the lamp into darkness it cast us...
No, you've got it the wrong way round
Just shut me up and blamed it on the brown
Cornered the boy kicked out at the world,
The world kicked back a lot fuckin' harder...
If you wanna try, If you wanna try
There's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie, I know you lie
I'm still in love with you (oh oh oh)
Can't take me anywhere (I'll take you anywhere)
You can't take me anywhere (I can't take you anywhere)
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go!
Oh, you can't stand me now (No, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now (Oh, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now (No, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now,
You can't stand me now!
Have we enough to keep it together?
Or do we just keep on pretending
And hope our luck is never ending
You tried to pull the wool, I wasn't feeling too clever
And you take all that they're lending
Until you needed mending...
If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie, all you do is make me cry
And all these words they aint true (oh oh)
I can't take me anywhere (I can't take you anywhere)
You can't take me anywhere (I'll take you anywhere)
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go!
Oh, you can't stand me now (No, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now (Oh, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now (No, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now (No, you can't stand me now)
You can't stand me now!
You can't stand me now!
You can't stand me now!
No, you can't stand me now!
You can't stand me now!
You can't stand me now!
No, you can't stand me now!
There Is No God (Bonnie "Prince" Billy)
Bonnie “Prince” Billy There Is No God (2011) ------------------------------------------------------------- (May God Forgive Me)
There is no God. There is no God. There is no God. But that which surrounds the tongue
That which sees love in the chest
That which puts mouth on cock and vagina
Well, That, THAT is best.
There is no prayer. There is no prayer. There is no prayer. But that which is sung in laughter
That which is lovingly uttered
Or through gritted teeth
That which is hissed or muttered.
There is no God. There is no God. There is no God.
There is no God. There is no God. There is no God.
There are those who will outlive you
There is a force that is many
There are teachings and taught
There is tons, there is one, there is not any!
There is no God. There is no God. There is no God.
There is no God. There is no God. There is no God.
