The Last Shadow Puppets (Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys) Covers Leonard Cohen "Is This What You Wanted"

Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys has an excellent side project with his mate Miles Kane called The Last Shadow Puppets. Here they are doing an unlikely cover of Leonard Cohen's "Is This What You Wanted" from Cohen's 1974 New Skin For The Old Ceremony. Last Shadow Puppets will release a new EP Dream Synopsis, which includes this song, on December 2, 2016.

Last Shadow Puppets is a great way for Alex to unleash his inner crooner. He's buddies with fellow Sheffield crooner Richard Hawley:

Arctic Monkeys (under their pseudonym The Death Ramps) did a song with Richard Hawley:

Alex does some crooning with Arctic Monkeys, but with Last Shadow Puppets, he can truly let his inner Johnnie Ray shine. Many have commented on the Last Shadow Puppets debt to Scott Walker and The Walker Brothers and to retro orchestral pop in general, but I wondered if they had been listening to the solo work of ex-Byrd Gene Clark as well.

Here are some Last Shadow Puppets videos I shot in Santa Cruz in April 2016, including a cover of The Beatles' "She's So Heavy":

And the one that started it all in 2008, "The Age Of The Understatement":
