DVD shopping in Queens. "Whitey, for your Love" is a personal favourite. pic.twitter.com/yzNbHpbZWb— Swet Shop Boys (@SwetShopBoys) January 8, 2014
I especially like that remix by Wallpaper.
Das Racist featured two MCs - Heems (AKA Himanshu Suri) and A.D. Cool (AKA Victor Vazquez) - and hype man Dapwell (AKA Ashok Kondabalu). Their songs were funny, political, and funky. "Pizza Hut/Taco Bell" was a fluke hit in 2008.
Many people also liked HBO's The Night Of, starring Riz Ahmed, who raps under the name Riz MC...
Heems and Riz have been rapping together as Swet Shop Boys, often addressing hard-hitting issues such as Islamophobia, racial profiling, and police violence.
They write what it's like to be South Asian in the US and the UK in the post 9/11 world. The group is made up of a Pakistani Muslim (Riz) and a Indian Hindu (Heems). But as Hindus and Sikhs the world over have discovered, their own personal feelings about Muslims were irrelevant to the fact that they were likely to be confused by the ignorant as Muslims and thus subject to Islamophobic discrimination, bigotry, and attacks. Even as Riz Ahmed's profile has raised as the star of several powerful films and HBO's mini-series The Night Of, he is still receives racist scrutiny from authorities based on his appearance and ethnic/religious background.
