"So, let us not be blind to our differences - but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal." JFK, June 10, 1963.

New Jack White Song! Solo Album to Come!
Jack White, the Detroit/Nashville genius behind The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather has done some solo stuff, like that song with Alicia Keys in the James Bond movie that was on TV last night.
Now he's (finally) doing a solo album and here is the first song "Love Interruption":
Download an MP3 of "Love Interruption" here....
The B-side "Machine Gun Silhouette" will be released next week, with the album coming out in April.
A solo US tour, with extensive dates in the Pacific NW, is sure to follow soon....

He added that he only got around to recording his own material in his studio in Nashville because an unnamed artist failed to show up for their session. White explained: "A few months ago, we had a session booked and someone didn't show up, so I said, 'I guess we'll do some of my songs'... It kickstarted the whole process."
Jack White explained that most of the songs on the album were written recently, after that first 'accidental' session. He said of his solo songs: "I only had a couple at first… when you're in The Dead Weather, all four of us wrote songs together in the same room, so I would never write songs on my own for that band."
He also explained that when he was in The White Stripes he always felt like he and drummer Meg White were "covering" Jack White songs, adding that he can never think of a song as his own when performing it, and even now he feels like he is playing cover versions of his own material.
Produced by White at his own Third Man Studio in Nashville, 'Love Interrpution' comes backed with non-album B-side 'Machine Gun Silhouette' – which is available for pre-order from JackWhiteIII.com and Thirdmanrecords.com.
The unveiling of the material comes almost a year to the day (February 2, 2011) thatThe White Stripes announced announced they had split up. A statement released by the duo claimed that artistic differences, health issues or a "lack of wanting to continue" were not the reasons for the split.
In the 12 months since the end of the band, White has kept himself busy with collaborations and production work at his Third Man Records label, working withInsane Clown Posse, Tom Jones, US comic Stephen Colbert and rappers Black Milk.

Jack White Announces Solo Album
Listen to first single "Love Interruption" now
By Jenn Pelly on January 30, 2012 at 11:48 a.m.
With the White Stripes officially in the rearview, it's time for Jack White's solo LP. The record is called Blunderbuss and it's out April 24 via Third Man/Columbia, according to his snazzy new website. Listen to low-key first single "Love Interruption" above.
In a press release, White said Blunderbuss is "an album I couldn't have released until now. I've put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas."
The single will be available to purchase digitally tonight. On February 7, Third Man issues it as a 7" backed by non-album cut "Machine Gun Silhouette".

Well for Song Of The Moment, it's a toss up between the Richard Hawley/The Death Ramps (Arctic Monkeys) collaboration "You and I" and Russia's all-female political punk powerhouse Pussy Riot's "Putin Has Pissed Himself".
I guess Pussy Riot wins by default, having been detained by the cops in Moscow (which can be a one-way trip, by the way...) for performing said song in St. Basil's Square.... uh, Putin isn't known to have a sense of humor about these things, sending political enemies to Siberia or worse (didn't they fatally poison one Putin critic in exile in merry olde England with radioactive material a few years back? Some people just don't get it when a man of destiny is in charge.... so what if he killed people left and right in the Caucasus and divided formerly state oil assets among his buddies while censoring and killing journalists and.....)
But... a flurry of activity for the Arctic Monkeys. First we hear they will be opening up for The Black Keys on a major US arena tour (their first) and playing Coachella. Then we get covers of "Strange" (Patsy Cline) and "Katy on a Mission" (Katy B - who? some British pop tart, i dunno... for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge), then the Black Treacle single with "You and I" (a really cool song) as a B-Side.... While fooling around online, I also found "Only You Know" (a Dion cover) and "Only Ones You Know" with Richard Hawley.
And then there's new Skrillex, an EP called Bangarang. He does a song with the remaining Doors that's pretty cool.
I liked the new Maccabees album, so I downloaded their other releases too.
Been hearing so much about the reunion of Refused (the 90s Swedish political punks) at Coachella and other dates with fellow Swedes, The Hives, so I downloaded a bunch of their stuff.... Come to think of it, this is a good chance to have a little private mini-Hives revival about now...
K'naan has a new EP out.
Leonard Cohen has a new album.
Craig Finn of The Hold Steady has a new solo album.
Had to hear the remix of Lana del Rey's Born to Die by PDP13 (Damon Albarn).
The new Guided By Voices album is good.
An audio sample of Newt Gingrich's ex-wife talking about his open marriage proposal is destined to be hilarious for years to come.
A 1968 demo of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'" (Harry Nielson's version for "Midnight Cowboy" won an Oscar) was cool to hear.
The soundtrack for "Colors" featuring Ice-T is still cool 20-some years later...
The Beach Boys first two albums, just because....
DJ Zebra Mash's mash up of Marvin Gaye and The Pixies "Get It On My Mind"
Outernational feat Tom Morello on two songs including Woody Guthrie's "Deportees"
"Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett feat The Foo Fighters...
.... and a "new" song by The Doors, "She Smells So Good"
(I have a feeling that before this and the Skrillex song came out, The Doors hadn't been mentioned on a blog for months....)

Pussy Riot: Russian all-girl punk band arrested for performing anti-government song
Russian police detained a punk group called Pussy Riot on Friday after they performed a protest song criticising Vladimir Putin next to Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow.

Eight members of an all-girl punk group called Pussy Riot wearing brightly coloured mini-dresses and balaclavas climbed over railings onto a stone platform next to the cathedral to sing a song called Putin Has Pissed Himself.
Russian police stood by while the band performed the song before detaining all the members and taking them to the nearby Kitai-Gorod police station.
Four members were later charged with the non-criminal public order offences and disobeying police, carrying a maximum punishment of 15 days behind bars, according to one band member who uses the nickname Garadzha Matveyeva.
In December the band gave a roof-top concert next to the police cell where protest leader and blogger Alexei Navalny was serving a short sentence.
They have also performed in the Moscow metro.

"Attack at dawn? I would not mind..."
FUCK PUTIN!
LONG LIVE A FREE RUSSIA!
FREEDOM FOR RUSSIA'S COLONIES!
NO MORE CZARS! NO MORE STALINS!
----------------------------------------------
a very rough translation of Pussy Riot lyrics....
Go to the Kremlin - the rebellious colonies
In the FSB (Federal Security Service) offices
Windows explode
Females for red walls
Riot announces Abortion System!
Attack at dawn? I would not mind...
For our freedom and yours, a whip to punish
Madonna in Glory learn how to fight
Feminist Magdalene went to the demonstration
Revolt in Russia - the charisma of protest
Riot in Russia - Putin has pissed himself!
Riot in Russia - We Exist!
Riot in Russia – Riot! Riot!
Come out to the street
Live on the Red
Show free
civil anger
(loss on the square)
Dissatisfaction with the culture of male hysteria
Wild leaderism eats brains
Orthodox religion is a hard dick
Patients were invited to conformity
Fashion comes to censor dreams
It's time to disrupt & clash
A flock of females… sexist treatment
Ask for forgiveness from a feminist wedge.
Revolt in Russia - the charisma of protest
Riot in Russia - Putin has pissed himself!
Riot in Russia - We Exist!
Riot in Russia – Riot! Riot!
Come out to the street
Live on the Red
Show free
Civil Anger…
Текст новой песни группы Pussy Riot "ПУТИН ЗАССАЛ":
К Кремлю идет восставшая колонна
В ФСБшных кабинетах взрываются окна.
Суки ссут за красными стенами
Riot

Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman covers Woody Guthrie's "Deportees"
The Sound Strike are progressive musicians who came together to fight racist anti-immigrant sentiment in the US, as exemplified by an Arizona law that racially profiled Latinos for police harassment, ID checks, and treats of arrest and deportation. Sound Strike has been supported by musicians such as Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), who called for a musician's boycott of Arizona and the group Outernational, whose album Todos Somos Ilegales (We Are All Illegals) is available for free download (you can donate whatever you'd like).
